iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, Analysis and Features

One of the most controversial devices from Apple was both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. In this post, you can find all the information related to these two devices from Cupertino, so if you are considering a purchase, you can know exactly what to expect.

Main Features

As there is no other way, I would like to start this analysis by describing the most important aspects that these two iPhones offer. This is because we believe these two iPhones truly represent the experience that users will have when making the most out of them. They match on a day-to-day basis.

Screen and Dimensions

Let’s start by talking about the screen. As previously explained, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus differ in the size of both devices, which obviously has a very clear impact on the screen size. On one hand, the iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch screen, while on the other hand, the iPhone 14 Plus reaches 6.7 inches, thus matching the two sizes also found in the Pro models.

Obviously, screen size is always something to take into consideration, as ultimately, it’s what allows users to enjoy the content and actions performed on the device. However, size isn’t everything at this point. Both models feature a Super Retina HDR screen, with the famous notch that has continued to be the protagonist since these models, but they do not adopt the Pro’s Dynamic Island. Additionally, they do not have the ProMotion display, which means they don’t have the famous 120 Hz refresh rate. Consequently, they also lack the famous always-on display. They do have a brightness of 800 nits, which goes up to 1200 for HDR content. They also come with True Tone.

In terms of dimensions, the feeling when holding them is very similar to the Pro models, but the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 is the most comfortable to use, as its size is ideal and its weight is really nice as well. The iPhone 14 Plus has a considerably larger size, which can be somewhat uncomfortable when using it with one hand, but since the weight does not increase significantly, it is something to consider.

Camera

One of the most important points of the iPhone, as everyone knows, is the camera level features. Well, the iPhone 14 is still treated as one of the best in the market, despite not having too many notable news compared to the iPhone 13. However, it is also clear that there are other devices available that offer better features.

Let’s start talking about the technical specifications. As you may know, these two iPhones have a dual-camera module, which includes a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor with an f/1.5 aperture lens featuring optical image stabilization due to sensor shift, a 6-element lens, and 100% focus pixels. On the other hand, the ultra-wide-angle lens is also 12 megapixels, with an f/2.4 aperture, a 120º field of view, and a 5-element lens. In addition to all this, they have an optical zoom of 2x and a maximum digital zoom of 5x.

Comparing them to the Pro models, neither has a telephoto lens, which, among the 14, is the least used one, so users of both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus must acknowledge that they will take photos with a wide range of possibilities and focal lengths. Additionally, the famous Photo Styles, Night Mode, Panorama photos, Live Photos, and automatic image stabilization are present. However, you cannot take photos in the ProRAW format.

Now let’s move on to video, in which the iPhone has always been the king of the market. In addition to offering excellent image quality, both sound and stabilization are truly outstanding. Well, speaking from the perspective of stabilization, these iPhone 14s release one novelty: the Action Mode, which, as you can predict, adds extra stability in situations where there is a lot of movement in the image as a result of busy actions. Of course, there is 4K video recording, not only the famous ones but also the Cinema Mode, which is available in 4K as well.

In short, despite the criticisms these two devices have received, at the camera level, they offer incredible versatility and, of course, beast-like image quality, making them the perfect tool to create high-quality audiovisual content that you can save on social networks or store within the device as beautiful memories.

Design

Apple’s design is always a significant aspect, as their products are aesthetically eye-catching, ultimately becoming one of the brand’s distinguishing features. In this case, since the iPhone 13 is aesthetically identical to the iPhone 14, there is little innovation. However, depending on the chosen color, these devices are very appealing and, to a greater or lesser extent, elegant. There is no doubt that their beauty will make you enjoy holding them in your hands. And since we are talking about colors and finishes, below, I will list the colors that Apple has chosen for these iPhone 14 and 14 Plus:

  1. Midnight.
  2. Starlight.
  3. Red (Product RED).
  4. Blue.
  5. Purple.
  6. Yellow.
  7. However, in many cases, the color of the device is not that important, as users typically carry these devices in cases. Also, be careful with the back, which is made of glass, as it may be prone to scratches and damage when used. This is one significant difference compared to the Pro models, which have aluminum backs and are more resistant. Lastly, it’s worth mentioning the square edges that give the iPhone a more sophisticated premium appearance, which clearly impacts the design.

    Battery

  8. One of the most crucial points when deciding whether to purchase a device is the battery. As mentioned at the beginning of the post, the difference in size between the 14 and 14 Plus makes a difference. However, just like with the Pro models, size is significant in this regard. For regular users who don’t use the device intensively, both models have enough autonomy to reach the end of the day without any problems. Now, if you are a user who frequently uses the device, you should consider that the iPhone 14 might have fairer battery life than the iPhone 14 Plus.

No, in terms of charging, it’s exactly the same, and it can be done in two different ways: through the Lightning port, wireless charging, or using MagSafe power technology. Furthermore, they come with fast charging, or at least Apple’s fast charging, which allows users to charge up to 20% in 30 minutes with a 50W adapter.

Other important aspects We’ve already discussed the most important and relevant points that ITIGIC considers. However, there are other aspects to consider as well, as ultimately everything contributes to an excellent user experience with this type of device.

Performance

Apple has always ensured that these devices have enough capacity to provide excellent fluidity and operation, so users don’t really have to worry about whether their iPhone is more or less powerful. Now, on this occasion, the chip installed in both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus has become the trigger for another controversy surrounding them.

[Note: The original text was incomplete and did not specify the controversy, so the translation cannot provide that information either.]

Both models come with the A15 Bionic chip, a 6-core CPU, and a 5-core GPU. This means they have not made the leap to the A16 Bionic chip, nor do they have the same processor as the iPhone 13. The chip found in the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max represents an evolution that was left unfinished, which has generated a lot of criticism. Despite all the noise, the reality is that these iPhones function just as well as they would if Apple had introduced the A16 Bionic, so there’s no need to worry about power at any time.

Price

Another point of controversy surrounding these devices is the economic amount that people who want to acquire them must pay. The controversy stems from the price increase of these devices. The iPhone 14 starts at €1,009, and the iPhone 14 Plus starts at €1,159. This means the base model has increased by €100 compared to the iPhone 13, but even with the controversy, the prices have remained the same for another year.

Clearly, the price increase for the iPhone 14, coupled with the fact that there is very little news compared to the iPhone 13, has led to controversy and criticism towards Apple’s move. However, the reality is that the increase in the device’s price is not solely due to Apple, but also the economic situation currently experienced in Spain.

Is it worth buying the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Plus?

We have reached the final point of this post, which is to provide our perspective from ITIGIC, as we do with every analysis of this type. Of course, this is our opinion, and it may or may not align with yours, and it should never determine your final purchasing decision; what truly matters is whether it meets your needs.

With that said, the first thing we must make clear is that these are indeed really good devices. However, the price increase and the slight differences compared to the iPhone 13 are what affect users’ perception. Therefore, for those users who were mainly considering the iPhone 14 as a purchase option, it is certainly more appropriate to choose the iPhone 13 and save money. Now, if you want a 6.7-inch iPhone and are not willing to pay the cost of the 14 Pro Max, the most suitable option is probably the iPhone 14 Plus, or to look for a more affordable iPhone 13 Pro Max.
